Erdogan Urges Deeper Transport Cooperation Within OIC

(MENAFN) Türkiye’s president on Thursday urged enhanced transportation coordination among member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), emphasizing that strong and dependable networks are crucial for tapping into the economic capacity of the Islamic world.

In a recorded address to a gathering of OIC transport ministers in Istanbul, Recep Tayyip Erdogan noted that Muslim nations cover an expansive region stretching from Asia and Africa to Europe and the Middle East. He pointed out that these countries possess strategic transit routes, a vibrant youthful population, and rapidly expanding markets.

“However, to fully realize this great potential and transform geographical advantages into strategic power, we need efficient, reliable, and integrated transport networks,” he said.

Erdogan stressed that closer connectivity between roadways, rail systems, seaports, and airports would enhance not only commercial exchange but also social and cultural ties among member countries.

Referring to Türkiye’s recent major infrastructure undertakings — such as the Marmaray rail tunnel, the Eurasia Tunnel, and significant bridge projects — Erdogan stated that the nation has strengthened international trade corridors while broadening its railway, maritime, and aviation capabilities.

He further remarked that through Türkiye’s backing of the Trans-Caspian East-West Middle Corridor Project, the country has revitalized the historic Silk Road with a contemporary outlook.
“However, we do not evaluate these investments solely within a national framework,” he said.

“Our goal is to strengthen integration with member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, develop cross-border corridors, and generate added value through joint projects.”
